Publication Commentary — Formed In My Mother’s Womb

by Mel M Walters

Purpose gives us meaning, keeps us living, and gives us a reason to get up every morning. When we were children, purpose was like a blank canvas, and we could imagine becoming anything we wanted to be. But what often gave us the drive, courage, and confidence to keep moving forward as we pursued our dreams, careers, and passions was the prayers of our parents. As those of us who have become parents (even youth leaders, mentors, and play roles in the life of a child), we too have the privilege of seeing, nurturing, and cultivating greatness within our children. We understand that purpose is not something we create for them, but something God has already placed within them.

“Praying for our children is never far from our lips. It is what we do every day.”

"Dear Heavenly Father... “We know that our children were created to live a life of purpose and meaning.”

Formed In My Mother’s Womb by Mel M. Walters carries those heartfelt desires and speaks into the areas of our children’s lives that we cannot reach all at once. We long to see our children grow in health, experience success, live long, meaningful, and fruitful years. Whilst they remain strong in character, keep good company, and become all that God has created them to be

Our children are so precious. We love and care for them deeply, and we want the very best for their lives. Each day, we make it our priority to pray for our children and to speak words of affirmation into their lives—words that will guide and strengthen them along the paths where we may not always be there to protect them.

“Help our children understand and recognize who You have called them to be.”

Growing up, many of us who were raised in the faith can attest to the moments when our parents came into our rooms, placed their hands on our heads, and prayed for us. Others can testify to having parents or guardians who served as pillars of guidance, protection, and mentorship. As adults, when we encounter the many nuances and challenges of life, we often find ourselves recalling the times our parents prayed for us, or the specific prayers they spoke over the purpose and calling upon our lives

Purpose gives us meaning. It shapes the journey that lies ahead. At times, it may not be immediately visible or easy to trace, yet it awakens our interests—our passions, habits, and natural inclinations. These are the areas where we feel most alive and most free to be ourselves. For our children, those God-given inclinations can become anchors that keep them grounded through their studies, guard them from distractions, and give them the strength to persevere when they feel tempted to give up.

“Before the foundation of the world, You knew them.”

Jeremiah had a purpose for his life before he was even born. The beauty of this truth is that he was already in the mind of God; his life was planned before he was conceived and before he was formed in his mother’s womb. This reveals that the value of his life was of no small significance. Likewise, our children have a divine purpose before they are born. Their lives are in the hands of God, and even more profoundly, they are in the mind of God. As He forms and fashions them, He knows the qualities, gifts, and characteristics He has placed within them.

In Formed In My Mother’s Womb, the prayer emphasizes:

“Along with their career goals and aspirations, guide __________ in discovering their purpose in You. Help our children to understand and recognize who You have called them to be, and to walk in harmony with Your divine will(Walters, M. M. Formed In My Mother’s Womb, 2022, Capsonart Publishing).

This prayer reminds us that while we can support our children’s ambitions and celebrate their achievements, our greatest responsibility is to pray that they discover who God has called them to be. Careers may change, opportunities may come and go, but a life anchored in divine purpose will always have direction, meaning, and eternal significance.

“Thank You for the purpose and meaning You give to our child’s life.”

Formed In My Mother’s Womb is a publication - project that is near and dear to our hearts.

We began this project with a heartfelt appreciation for the prayers our parents prayed over us. It was also founded on the recognition that prayer plays a vital role in every stage of life. For our children, even before they are born and throughout their lives, prayer becomes an anchor that keeps them grounded amid the realities and challenges of life.

After years of pain, perseverance, and real-life experiences, Mel M. Walters has poured her heart and prayers into this project, and we are finally able to celebrate its upcoming release in early 2027. Sample reads can be found in our Authors Speak E-Magazine here
