FEATURE READ

This week's featured reads come from two powerful narratives: Formed in My Mother's Womb and Roses Among Thorns: Flourishing in the Midst of Adversity — stories rooted in a place that is both raw and real. Authors M.C. Vaughan-Cadmus and Mel M. Walters have each navigated their own pathway through motherhood, childhood, grief, faith, and personal growth.

MOTHER'S DAY CARRIES A POIGNANT TENDERNESS. As we celebrate the women in our lives, we also hold space for those who grieve — quietly honouring the women who shaped, nurtured, and impacted them.

...THE NARRATIVE FEATURES

The inaugural issue of Author Speak features sample readings from both books — each one an invitation to reflect, pray, and grow. Here is a glimpse of what awaits you inside

Formed in My Mother's Womb

Days of Prayer

By Mel M Walters

Praying for our children is never far from our lips. It is what we do every day — before they are born, as they are formed, and as they grow in the grace and knowledge of God. Formed in My Mother's Womb was inspired by something we hold deeply: the covering of a parent's prayers.

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations."— Jeremiah 1:5

Even before he was conceived, Jeremiah was already in God's mind — his existence, purpose, and calling fully known. What is especially striking is that his parents are barely mentioned, a quiet reminder that God's hand moves even beyond what we can see. In the same way, our children are held in God's mind and in His hands before they are ever conceived.

This devotional creates a sacred space for parents and children to come together: a time to reflect, speak life, and rest in the knowledge that they are continually being formed in God's hands. Each day offers a simple, engaging experience through prayer, scripture, and creative reflection.

Formed in My Mother's Womb — Day 3  "I/We know, Father, that ________ was specifically formed to live a life with purpose and meaning. Before the foundation of the world, You knew everything about them, even before they were conceived. You are well acquainted with their past, present, and future; their life is like an open book before You."
"Along with their career goals and aspirations, guide them in identifying their purpose in You. Help ______ to understand and recognize whom You have called them to be and to act in harmony with Your divine will."

Roses Among Thorns

Flourishing In The Midst of Adversity

By M.C Vaughan Cadmus

Roses Among Thorns: Flourishing in the Midst of Adversity was born out of lived experience — a mother navigating grief, loss, unmet expectations, and the piercing thorns of life. Through uncertainty, pain, and perseverance, she emerged with a testimony that shaped not only her own life, but the lives of her children and those she continues to inspire.

Like Jeremiah, her story reflects the truth that God holds purpose even in seasons of hardship. Through adversity, faith is the soil where resilience, healing, hope, and growth take root.

This work speaks to anyone who has walked through dark seasons — offering the quiet assurance that beauty, strength, and renewed joy can still bloom among the thorns.

Roses Among Thorns — Chapter One  "I noted the positioning of the roses in comparison to the thorns at the bottom of the branches. I wondered how the roses found their way to the top of the branches. At that moment, the idea planted in my heart — Roses Among Thorns. The revelation hit me as young as I was: 'God wants me to be beautiful just like that rose.' "

"Although I didn't realize it then, my encounter with those roses would, years later, shape my views on life's challenges."
